Evaluation of 2017-18 reports show universities and colleges are demonstrating due regard to the Prevent duty.
An overwhelming majority of universities and other higher education providers demonstrated due regard to the government’s Prevent duty in 2017-18, a report from the Office for Students (OfS) has found.
The report shows that, in 2017-18, 307 universities and other higher education providers met expectations. One provider, which has since been de-designated for student support, was judged to need to take further action, but has now left the OfS’s Prevent monitoring regime. One further provider did not provide the OfS with the information necessary to make a judgement, and has been referred to the Department for Education.
The report analyses sector level data from accountability and data returns which universities and other higher education providers must submit to the OfS.
The OfS has previously announced its move towards a more risk-based process towards Prevent monitoring, with the next set of accountability and data returns due to be submitted in December 2019.
