Changes in healthcare student numbers
Data and methodology
The data used in the charts and tables in this section is based on UK and EU students. It only applies to English universities publicly funded in 2017-18, which excludes a small number of students who studied pre-registration courses at a college or private provider.
Disciplines only available at one or two providers are not shown for data protection reasons. This applies to prosthetics and orthotics, and to orthoptics.
Counts have been rounded to the nearest five and proportions have been rounded to the nearest 1 per cent. Additionally, in circumstances where the combination of study and student characteristics means there are very few students in a category, the percentage change is suppressed to protect student anonymity.
When students have an unknown characteristic, or in cases where very few students nationally have a particular characteristic, these are included in the totals but not shown separately.
Further information on the methodology and populations used in this data analysis is available in our methodology document.
