Dashboard user guide
- The dashboard also contains a ‘Help guide’ button in the top right. Relevant information included in this guide will also be available via this button.
- In addition, the ‘show help icons’ button in the top right will display help bubbles overlaying the dashboard which describe key elements.
- Throughout this guide we have suggested an order to using the buttons and filters, but they can be applied in any order.
- To see the dashboard in full-screen, scroll to the bottom of the dashboard and click the square icon in the bottom right-hand corner, which on hover-over says ‘See this in full-screen’.
The overview only displays data for the 'Taught or registered' student population view.
1. Select a provider
- Use the ‘Select a provider’ dropdown box in the blue control panel to choose (or search for) a provider’s data to display.
- The sector rates can be selected by selecting the provider ‘*All OfS registered providers’.
- Providers without any data whatsoever will not show up in the ‘Select a provider’ dropdown.
2. Select which measure to show
- Use the tabs above the charts to switch between showing either the continuation, completion or progression measure.
3. Additional filters
- Click ‘Show additional filters’ in the blue control panel to display two additional filters:
- Use the first slider to only show indicators with a denominator greater than or equal to the selected value. This allows users to look at provider performance for student populations of a given size.
- Use the second slider to only show indicators for which the proportion of the statistical uncertainty distribution that is below the numerical threshold for condition B3 is greater than the selected value.
The detailed view contains further data than is available via the overview, such as split indicators, benchmark information and other views of the student population. The detailed view shows a single measure for multiple types of split indicator (multiple characteristics) for a chosen mode and level of study.
On the right of the blue control panel on the overview page, under ‘See more data’, there are two options for accessing the detailed view:
- Build a query takes you to the query helper, which aids users in selecting the data they wish to see in the detailed view. Users can return to the query helper at any time or filter the data directly from the detailed view.
- Skip to detailed view takes you straight to the detailed view where users can filter the data without the aid of the query helper.
Both options have the same available filters. The following instructions apply equally to the controls in build a query and the detailed view, although the ordering of the filters may differ.
1. Select a provider
- Use the ‘Select a provider’ dropdown to choose (or search for) a provider’s data to display.
- The sector rates can be selected by selecting the provider ‘*All OfS registered providers’.
- Providers without any data whatsoever will not show up in the dropdown.
2. Select a view of a provider’s student population
- Use the ‘Select a view of a provider’s student population’ dropdown to change which population of the provider’s students should inform the charts:
- Taught or registered: These are students that are either registered or taught at the provider in question.
- Taught: These are any students that are taught at the provider in question.
- Partnership: These are students that are associated with the provider through partnership arrangements (sub-contractual partnerships, or validation-only)
3. Select a measure
- On the build a query menu, use the dropdown to change which student outcome measure will be shown.
- On the detailed view, the measure shown can be changed using the tabs above the charts.
4. Select a mode and level of study
- The detailed view will show only a single mode and level of study at a time. The default is full-time, first degree. To change the selection, click the yellow button labelled ‘Select a mode and level of study’ and select a non-empty cell from the mode-level tables that appear.
- The mode-level tables show the percentage of students in each mode and level of study. Empty cells indicate zero per cent and cannot be selected.
- There are separate mode-level tables for full- or part-time students and apprenticeship students. If there are no students in a given mode or level of study then the corresponding column, row or table will not be shown.
5. Select a minimum population size (denominator)
- Use this slider to only show indicators with a denominator greater than or equal to the selected value. This may result in no data being shown.
6. Select a minimum proportion of the uncertainty distribution below numerical threshold
- Use this slider to only show indicators for which the proportion of the statistical uncertainty distribution that is below the numerical threshold for condition B3 is greater than the selected value. This may result in no data being shown.
7. Choose whether to show indicators or difference from benchmark
- Use the buttons to select which visualisation to show:
- Indicator values only: This shows indicator values relative to a numerical threshold. This is shown by default.
- Difference from benchmark values only: This shows the difference between the indicator value and its benchmark value.
- Benchmarked data is not applicable to postgraduate levels of study or sector-level data. The charts will still appear but will contain no data.
8. Select which types of split indicator to show
- Use the ‘Select split indicator types(s)’ dropdown to show only particular types of split indicator (particular subjects, student characteristics or study characteristics).
- The dropdown will include all possible split indicator types, even where there is no data for that split indicator type.
