Discover Uni and the Discover Uni dataset

Discover Uni dataset

The data on Discover Uni is called the Discover Uni dataset. We operate the data collection in partnership with the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), which is now part of Jisc.

The Discover Uni dataset is comprised of the information that providers submit to HESA in their Discover Uni data submission, as well as data from the National Student Survey, Graduate Outcomes Survey and Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO), and information about quality assessment and standards.

Discover Uni currently displays data from the 2024 Discover Uni dataset. This dataset contains information relevant to courses that will run in the 2025-26 academic year.

See details and a timetable for collection of the 2024-25 dataset (HESA website)

Providers can update their existing information on Discover Uni by resubmitting their Discover Uni data to HESA. Further details can be found on the 'Information for providers' section of Discover Uni.

Newly registered providers in England are required to submit and sign off a Discover Uni data return within two months of the date of registration.

See detailed guidance on the content of the data collection (HESA website)

The Discover Uni website is refreshed annually with the newest Discover Uni dataset. Updates to the dataset are made as required, when contributing higher and further education providers wish to update their information in their Discover Uni data submission, or when HESA or the Office for Students make changes to the underlying data. These updates occur weekly.

Discover Uni widget

The Discover Uni widget is embedded on course pages on provider websites, and provides a headline of the Discover Uni data associated with that course, as well as a direct link to the corresponding course page on the Discover Uni website.

The widget has been updated to display data from the C24061 Discover Uni dataset.

The data displayed on the widget is:

  1. Percentage of students in the National Student Survey who were satisfied overall with their course (for providers in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales only)
  2. Percentage of students in the National Student Survey who said staff value students’ views and opinions about the course (for providers in England only)
  3. Percentage in work or doing further study 15 months after the course, from the Graduate Outcomes Survey
  4. Percentage of students in the National Student Survey who said staff have supported their learning well.

The widget will display these datapoints where they are available for a course, or a standard message if data is not available.

Further details

For further details and guidance on how to implement the new widget, please see the 'information for providers' page on the Discover Uni website and widget guidance on the HESA website.
