Tackling religiously-based hate crime: extending the university community approach
The focus of this project has been to look at hate crime in its entirety within the #NeverOk campaign, since religious-based hate crime is often hard to differentiate from other forms of hate crime.
The University of Bath aimed to address religious-based hate crime through further development of the highly successful and respected anti-harassment campaign #NeverOK, along with some targeted events working collaboratively with the Chaplaincy, faith societies and the newly established University of Bath Interfaith Forum.
A video was created for students and staff from local secondary schools to accompany the 'Banter or Bullying' event, which was organised by the University of Bath, third-sector agencies and Bath and North East Somerset Council:
A six-week course was created by academic and professional staff for delivery to students, raising awareness of the prevalence of hate crimes and inequality within higher education and the roles we can take to challenge behaviours or policy and support victims.
