The Office for Students (OfS) is looking for a diverse range of higher education providers from across the UK to take part in the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) subject pilot exercise in 2018-19. Also assessment panel roles are available for students, academics and representatives of employers or professional, statutory and regulatory bodies.
Building on the first year of the pilot, the 2018-19 exercise will test how a specific assessment model works to produce TEF ratings at subject and provider level. It will also trial refinements to metrics and processes that were not explored in the 2017-18 pilot, including subject level ‘statements of findings,’ which summarise the basis for a TEF rating.
Taking part in the pilot presents an opportunity for a provider to help shape the development of the TEF, and ensure that future approaches can relate well to different types of higher education providers.
Taking part in the pilot as a provider
We aim to select a sample of 50 providers to represent a variety of higher education provision across the sector, and including England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Taking part in the pilot as a panel member
We are also recruiting around 18 additional assessment panel members for the 2018-19 pilot. Roles are available for students, academics, and representatives of employers or professional, statutory and regulatory bodies in a number of subject areas. In particular, we are keen to recruit current and recent undergraduates with experience in representing the views of students.
These paid positions are an opportunity to support the development of a high profile area of higher education policy.
