Jisc has been designated as the new body to collect and publish data on behalf of the OfS.
Jisc’s designation takes effect following its merger with the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) today.
In August 2022 the OfS recommended that the Secretary of State should designate Jisc to perform the information duties in sections 64 and 65 of the Higher Education and Research Act 2017 if the merger were to proceed. The Secretary of State has done so and Jisc is the designated body with effect from 4 October 2022.
We have published our recommendation to the Secretary of State today.
Richard Puttock, Director of Data, Foresight and Analysis at the OfS, said:
'The OfS is looking forward to working with Jisc in its important new role. The collection of timely, accurate, data about higher education courses, staff and students underpins the OfS’s regulatory approach and Jisc is well-positioned to take this work forward into its next phase.
'An early milestone for Jisc is the successful delivery of the Data Futures programme this year and it is important that the transition to the new arrangements runs smoothly.
'We would also like to thank colleagues at HESA for their work with the OfS over the last four years.'
