Students at Spurgeon’s College in London have been told their higher education courses will be closed from today.
Spurgeon’s is registered with the Office for Students. It has time-limited degree awarding powers, and also delivers courses through validation arrangements with two providers in the UK. The college validates courses for a partner in Northern Ireland.
Up to 200 current students are affected. They are primarily registered on undergraduate and postgraduate face-to-face and online courses in Theology and Christian Studies.
David Smy, Deputy Director of Regulation at the Office for Students said:
‘Our focus is to ensure that students' interests are protected in this challenging situation. This is a difficult time for students at Spurgeon’s and we’re talking to the college to do all we can to ensure students have the support and information they need to transfer to a course with another educational provider with a comparable programme to complete their studies.
‘We are working with Spurgeon’s College, as well as Liverpool Hope University and University of Manchester who have validated some of the courses at Spurgeon’s, to ensure students are supported and understand their options.’
Notes
The Office for Students is the independent regulator for higher education in England. We are currently developing a new strategy for 2025-2030 which seeks to ensure that students from all backgrounds benefit from high quality higher education, delivered by a diverse, sustainable sector that continues to improve.
