This guidance is for higher education providers that are exempt charities, and is intended to help providers to understand:
- their responsibilities as charities
- the OfS’s duties as the principal regulator for exempt charities
- how the OfS will discharge its responsibilities as principal regulator.

22 March 2024 - Paragraphs 6 and 22a amended to give details of subscribing to OfS alerts on matters relating to charity regulation, as the previous email list has now closed.
09 October 2018 - Paragraph 23 of this publication was updated following advice from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Charity Commission, to clarify that changes to schedule 3 to the Charities Act do not require consultation.
