Letter to accountable officers: Regulation during the current phase of the coronavirus pandemic

This letter notifies providers of additional, one-off funding totalling £20 million that the OfS is distributing to higher education providers in the financial year 2020-21 to address student hardship. This funding has been made available by the government to recognise the particular impact this year on individual students arising from the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

This research report outlines a new measure reporting projected rates of students progressing from entry to first degree programmes through to professional employment or further study (previously referred to as ‘start to success’). It brings together projected data on the number of full-time first-degree students who complete their studies (completion rates) with data about the progression of recent graduates to employment, further study or other activities (graduate outcomes). It also describes some of the known limitations of this method.

This document provides information about the prescribed fee caps that apply to individual higher education providers and the maximum fees chargeable by that provider to new students starting courses in 2021-22.

This report summarises access and continuation data for full-time (or apprenticeship) UK-domiciled undergraduate entrants to English higher education providers between 2013-14 and 2018-19, split by ethnicity and provider tariff group. Continuation data is further split by subject group (STEM and not STEM).

We were seeking views on our proposed approach to the use of our powers to impose monetary penalties on a higher education provider that breaches its conditions of registration with the Office for Students. We were also seeking views on our proposed approach to the publication of a decision to impose a monetary penalty.

Guidance for registered providers

We were consulting on our requirements for reportable events. A reportable event is a standing requirement placed on each registered provider to report certain events or matters to the OfS. We were seeking views on the way we define a reportable event in the regulatory framework and on revised guidance to help providers to understand and meet the OfS’s reporting requirements.

The OfS receives and generates information about the sector as a whole and about individual providers’ performance and regulatory compliance. We were seeking views on the approach that we propose to take to the publication of information about individual providers and other persons.
